Soccer BY PRISCILLA HARRY Mungkas Football Club will use the pre-season challenge to improve on their skills for the season proper tournament. As the tempo rises after the third week of the Port Moresby Soccer Association competition, the reigning champions are prepared to take on FC Genesis at Bisini Football Park on Sunday. Mungkas have started well with the men’s teams, once again taking the lead in pool A and C, while in the women’ division, the side is on third place but will definitely make their way up. Mungkas strikers Edwin Taberia, Lam Vincent, midfielders Elton Banem and Samson Lele and Abel Redenut to hype up the match as their best striker Basil Jofari will be missed in the pre season due to his contract with NSL’s FC Momase. Therefore, players have been told to work extra hard and be competitive to make the team. Mungkas coach David Passam said there is still need for improvement from last season and to maintain consistency throughout the 2018 season. “We have started slowly in training but the focus is to get the basics right and keep the ball possession in place with minimised errors,” he said. However, a determined FC Genesis who is currently in their second year into the competition under the control of the Lepani brothers, Andrew and Nathaniel, should again lead the side to another positive result. In the women’ division, Mungkas will play FC Guria and will be on their feet to fight for the top spot. At the moment, the Murat are on heat in first spot and FC Genesis currently occupying second placing.
