Woods 4 back with everyone around him at Honda Classic

first_imgTiger Woods hits out of a bunker on the 18th hole during the second round of the Honda Classic golf tournament, Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. (AP Photo/Wilfredo Lee)PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Even with a tee shot into the water for another double bogey, Tiger Woods could see the big picture in the Honda Classic. He was four shots out of the lead going into the weekend.ADVERTISEMENT SEA Games: PH still winless in netball after loss to Thais ‘A complete lie:’ Drilon refutes ‘blabbermouth’ Salo’s claims Defending champion Rickie Fowler had six bogeys on his front nine and shot 77 to miss the cut.“It’s unfortunate that the greens have changed this much in a year,” Fowler said. “They typically get slick and quick on the weekend because they dry out, but at least there’s some sort of surface. But like I said, everyone’s playing the same greens.”It looked as though List was playing a different course when he went out with a bogey-free 32 on the back nine, added a pair of birdies on the front nine and then dropped his only shot when he caught an awkward lie in the bunker on the par-3 seventh.“It’s very relentless,” List said. “There’s not really too many easy holes, but if you hit fairways and go from there, you can make a few birdies out there.”List and Lovemark, both Californians, have never won on the PGA Tour. This is the third time List has had at least a share of the 36- hole lead, most recently in South Korea at the CJ Cup, where he shot 76-72 on the weekend.“It’s kind of irrelevant because there’s going to be 30 guys within a couple shots of the lead,” List said. “It’s going to be that type of week.”He was exaggerating — there were 11 players within three shots of the lead. And there was another guy four shots behind.Woods brought big energy to a Friday afternoon that already was hopping before he overcame a sluggish start and holed a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 9 to make the turn at 1 under for his round, and leaving him two shots out of the lead. Everyone knew it just from listening to the roars.Woods had his chances, twice missing birdie putts from inside 10 feet at Nos. 10 and 12, sandwiched around a 12-foot par save. His round appeared to come undone when he found the water on the 15th and made double bogey for the second straight day. He misread the speed and the line, so badly that it was similar to a car driving from Chicago to Denver and winding up in Phoenix. A bogey dropped him to 2 over. The big moment was the 17th hole, 184 waters into the wind and over water. That’s where Rory McIlroy made triple bogey earlier in the day that ruined his otherwise solid round of 72, leaving him seven behind. Making it even tougher for Woods is the Brandt Snedeker hit 5-iron before him to about 6 feet. Woods got to the tee and the wind died, meaning 5-iron was too much and 6-iron wouldn’t clear the water. He went with the 5-iron.“I started that thing pretty far left and hit a pretty big cut in there because I had just too much stick,” Wood said.It landed 12 feet below the hole for a birdie putt.Thomas made 17 pars and a double bogey when he three-putted from 6 feet on No. 16. He felt the same way as Woods.“I’m in a good spot — really good spot — going into this week,” Thomas said.Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparc Luke List delivered a round not many others found possible in such difficult conditions Friday, a 4-under 66 that gave him a share of the lead with Jamie Lovemark (69). They were among only 10 players remaining under par.Fleetwood laughed when asked the last time he was at 2 under after 36 holes and only one shot out of the lead.“Maybe some junior event,” he said. “It’s good, though. These are the toughest test in golf. Generally, one of the best players prevail at the end of weeks like this. Weeks like this challenge you to the ultimate level. Whether you shoot two 80s or you lead after two rounds, you can see what you need to do and see where your game is. Because this is as hard as it’s ever going to get for you.”The difficulty was primarily from the wind, which blew just as hard in the morning when List shot his 66 as it did in the afternoon. More aggravating to the players are the greens, which are old and bare, firm and crusty. It’s a recipe for not making many putts.ADVERTISEMENT View comments Hotel says PH coach apologized for ‘kikiam for breakfast’ claim Judiciary Committee set to take over Trump impeachment probelast_img read more

Seized MT Badr Sets Sail from Burgas ReFlagged and Renamed

first_imgzoomImage Courtesy: GNMTC The Libyan-flagged crude oil tanker MT Badr that was seized by Bulgarian authorities in 2017, has been renamed and taken over by Bulgarian-based oil and gas contractor Bulgargeomin, the General National Maritime Transport Company of Libya (GNMTC) said in an update, stressing the transfer of ownership was illegal. As informed, the ship left Burgas anchorage on December 28, 2018, with a new crew on board, with the sailing permission issued by the Bulgarian Marine Administration and provisional Panama-flag certificate. GNMTC said that the provisional flag was revoked by Panama’s Maritime Authority a day before the ship left the port, slamming the actions as illegal. The sequence of events followed Badr’s seizure by Bulgarian border police on December 21, while at Burgas anchorage, and subsequent removal of the ship’s crew from the vessel. The ship had been detained by the Port Authority of Burgas since November 2017 over an alleged unpaid mortgage to Bulgargeomin. The company denied the claims that it owed a USD 9.23 million mortgage on the crude oil carrier, saying the mortgage was falsified. In January 2018, the Bulgarian Supreme Court ordered the vessel’s release, however, the vessel remained in detention ever since.Furthermore, according to the court documents, dated November 2018, the translation of which was provided by GNMTC to World Maritime News, the Supreme court cancelled the order for the seizure of the ship, and ordered Maritime Administration to compensate GNMTC damages for legal proceedings. As disclosed,  the court decided that BGM did not have corporate legal status that allows them to be a valid party in any court procedures, being a consortium of three companies Moran West Ltd, Moran Trade and Tectona Ltd.Separately, press office of Bulgargeomin said in a statement that all the documents seeking damages and MT Badr as collateral were legitimate, in line with the contract from 2013 signed by Hristina Ivanova Stamova, liquidator of the state owned Bulgargeoin EAD and Bulgargeomin. The company added that it was the only bidder in the subsequent official public auction for the sale of MT Badr, which was awarded to Bulgargeomin LTD in the presence of both sides of the case.“As a legitimate owner of MT Badr by virtue of award of ownership certificate (Write of Ownership) on movable property (MT Badr) dated at August 30, 2018, entered into full legal force on September 15, 2018, and not subject to appeal, Bulgargeomin changed the flag and register as the new owner of the ship. On December 13, 2018, the Panamanian Maritime Authority issued a provisional registration certificate for MT Badr with a registered new owner “Bulgargeomin Ltd” DZZD, and a new name Bdin,” the statement reads.GNMTC claims the letter of award was forged and that the order did not enter into valid legal force.“The basic starting activities of the auction as well as some of the formalities and documents concerned were finally revoked by the District Court of Bourgas on 21. Dec 2018 which makes the whole auction invalid and the vessel need to be considered as not sold at all. Unfortunately, the judgment is dated on 21 but it was visible as text on 27 of December,” GNMTC further stressed. On the other hand, GNMTC claims that the reflaging was based on “misleading documents” as Bulfarfeomin claimed it was the new owner, which GNMTC denies to be true. The company noted that the process is underway of returning the ship to Libyan flag registry.“From 21 to 27 of December, all relevant authorities were informed of all the details and were officially informed about these illegal actions – the Prosecution, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Border Police, the Marine Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” GNMTC said, adding that the transfer of the vessel possession is being appealed. The company added that an appeal process was also underway against Marine Administration’s sailing permission, which GNMTC described as “wrongful and unlawful.”“We, Libyan Navigator Limited, as legitimate and valid ship-owner if the vessel Badr, will require and seek only one thing-the pure and real justice from the Bulgarian judicial system and the relevant informational judicial authorities and courts,” the company further noted in a statement.World Maritime News Stafflast_img read more

40YearOld Mother Killed by FBI 10 Most Wanted Fugitive

first_imgBy Micha Green, AFRO Washington, D.C. Editor, mgreen@afro.comPolice and family members alike are searching for answers, motive and more after Natina Kiah, a mother of four and security guard at a D.C. homeless shelter, was stabbed to death on March 5.After admitting to his crime when pursued hours later, officers believe that Kiah’s murderer is 43-year-old Lamont Stephenson, who spent years on the FBI 10 Most Wanted list, after killing his fiancée and her dog in 2014 in New Jersey.Natina Kiah, 40, was stabbed to death March 5. Lamont Stephenson, 43, who was on the FBI 10 Most Wanted list, admitted to killing Kiah when he was apprehended hours later in Lanham, MD. (Courtesy Photo)It is believed that Stephenson has been living in the Washington Metropolitan Area after fleeing New Jersey for his alleged crime five years ago.Stephenson met Kiah a few weeks ago at a D.C. homeless shelter where they both worked according to WUSA 9 News.  Kiah was a security guard and Stephenson was a handyman.Police found Kiah’s body after getting a call about a welfare check on March 6 on the 5000 block of D Street Southeast, according to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.  A little after 8:30 p.m., Kiah was found with a stab wound and when D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded they reported that the “victim displayed no signs consistent with life.”The mother of four, ages 12, 14, 16 and 21, leaves behind a family begging for answers as to how this could have happened, particularly by someone who had been on the FBI 10 Most Wanted List.Kiah’s cousin presumes that she had become skeptical of Stephenson’s past when the crime occurred, and wonder how the homeless shelter was unaware, according to WUSA9.  Her family contends that a poster of the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted should be displayed at shelters.Kiah’s death is the 31st out of 32 murders that have happened in the District this year, according to D.C. Witness, which tracks local homicides.  The District of Columbia’s homicide rate is on the rise having increased about 88 percent since this time last year, when 17 people had been murdered.last_img read more

Get hitched to cut down on alcohol

first_imgBeing in a relationship could be wonderful in more ways than one. A new study indicates that people who are married, or cohabiting, generally tend to drink less – that’s fewer drinks, and less frequently. Singles are more inclined to drink more often, and in larger quantities, the findings showed.“It seems that intimate relationships may provide a real benefit in terms of drinking behaviour, maybe through mechanisms such as a monitoring effect that partners have on each other,” said lead study author Diana Dinescu from the University of Virginia. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfFor the study, the researchers compared the reported drinking patterns of twins in and out of relationships. “By using twins, our study allows us to eliminate entire classes of alternative explanations, such as genetic predispositions and upbringing influences, and brings us a step closer to understanding the true impact of relationships on drinking behaviour,” Dinescu said. The researchers culled their data from the Washington State Twin Registry, a database of twins who participate in health and behaviour research. Their sample included 1,618 female pairs and 807 male pairs. Registry participants stated on forms whether they were married, divorced, widowed, separated, never married or living with a partner. They also included information about their level of alcohol consumption.last_img read more

FIR against Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya

first_imgKolkata: There seems to be no end to political controversies in the election season. During the political campaigns, the Election Commission has seen allegations and counter allegations surfacing against various political leaders. An FIR has been lodged against veteran CPI(M) leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya who had sparked a row after allegedly threatening the family members of a Trinamool Congress leader in South 24-Parganas’ Bhangar area recently. Bhattacharya is contesting from Jadavpur. Najrul Islam, the TMC leader, registered a complaint with the police where he alleged that Bhattacharya threatened his family members when he was away from home. He also mentioned the names of two other CPI(M) leaders in the FIR who had allegedly accompanied Bhattacharya. He is pitted against actor-turned-politician Mimi Chakraborty who has been fielded by the TMC. It may be mentioned here that Bhattacharya had to face an unprecedented agitation by the people in his own turf on May 5. In the morning, he went to Maricha village of Bhangar Block I during his election rally where he had to face the wrath of the villagers. A large number of villagers staged a demonstration. He brought an allegation against the local TMC activists saying that the flags bearing his party symbol, put up in various places in Bhangar, had been removed by the TMC workers. He became so angry that he turned up at Islam’s house and allegedly threatened his family members of dire consequences.last_img read more
